NPS Management Policies Draft June 2006

The NPS is engaged in a comprehensive review of the policies that currently guide the management of the national park system. The policies are compiled in a book called "Management Policies," last published in 2001. Park superintendents, planners, and other NPS employees use management policies as a reference source when making decisions that will affect units of the national park system. A preliminary draft was published for public review and comment from October 18, 2005, until February 25, 2006. A new draft has been prepared on the basis of the more than 45,000 comments received. The new draft is undergoing an internal NPS review before it is put into final form. The new draft is available for public review, but comments are not being solicited at this time.

The draft is in Adobe pdf format. (If you do not have the Adobe Acrobat reader, it is available for downloading free of charge.) As you look through the draft you will see yellow highlights that indicate new text that has been added or revised. In some places you will notice small icons that look like a notepad. When you run your cursor over those locations you will be shown any text that was deleted.
