As part of the public engagement efforts for the Mt. Wanda Comprehensive Site Management Plan (CSMP)/Environmental Assessment (EA), the National Park Service (NPS) will host two informational hikes to allow members of the public to experience portions of the West Hills Farm parcel and Strentzel Creek watershed that are not normally accessible. Public comment will not be accepted during the hikes. Access to the area is limited, and consequently, the NPS must limit capacity of the hikes. Please review the following information about the hikes and associated logistics, and register for a hike below.

Description:
The hikes will be moderately strenuous and about 3.5 miles in length with approximately 600 feet elevation gain. The terrain is variable, often steep, and uneven, primarily consisting of unmaintained or abandoned fire roads. Hikers must be able to step up and over moderately sized logs and duck beneath fallen logs. Encounters with wildlife are possible, and environmental hazards that may be encountered include ticks, snakes, poison oak, and variable temperatures and weather conditions including possible cold, wind, rain, high heat, and direct sun. The hikes will be hosted rain or shine.

Meeting Directions/Instructions:
Hikers will meet at the John Muir NHS Visitor Center at 4202 Alhambra Ave., Martinez CA, 94553, and board a shuttle for a short ride to the Strentzel Meadow area. All individuals must wear masks while on the shuttle, to the extent required by current orders or directives issued by the CDC and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
