The NPS will be removing a small earthen dam in the Tennessee Valley coastal watershed to eliminate a safety hazard to visitors at the beach downstream of the dam. In addition to dam removal, the project includes restoration of natural channel, wetland, riparian, and coastal functions within the Tennessee Valley watershed. An Environmental Assessment (EA) was prepared to evaluate potential impacts of the project on the environment. The EA was made available to the public for comment from October 18, 2022 to November 17, 2022. A Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) was approved for the project on March 30, 2023.
