Welcome to the planning page for the Lobanillo Swales Interpretive Retracement Trail Project. The project will involve the construction of an interpretive trail, parking area, and interpretive signs at the Lobanillo Swales site on El Camino Real de los Tejas National Historic Trail.

The National Park Service (NPS) has partnered with El Camino Real de los Tejas Association (ELTEA) to plan and implement the project. ELTEA owns the site. A planning team from NPS worked closely with representatives from ELTEA to plan, design, and construct the improvements. Once complete, visitors will have access to the site and interpretive material illuminating a fascinating chapter in East Texas history, when Spanish explorers, settlers, and priests traveled through East Texas in the eighteenth century and established settlements, forts, and churches. The Lobanillo Swales are a striking reminder of this time.
