Frontcountry Management Plan

Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve » Frontcountry Management Plan » Document List

The National Park Service (NPS) is pleased to announce the release of a Glacier Bay National Park Frontcountry Management Plan for 30-day public and agency review.

The document includes a draft planning vision and environmental assessment covering visitor experiences, services, and general operations in a planning area that encompasses 7,120 acres of scenic rainforest and coastal waters in Southeast Alaska, including Bartlett Cove.

The frontcountry area supports core administrative facilities for the park and visitor services, including the Glacier Bay Lodge. The frontcountry is distinct from the backcountry areas of the park that encompass more than 2.6 million acres of designated Wilderness.

Comments will be accepted through May 8, 2019. Submitted comments will be considered in a final plan, expected for release this summer.

Park Superintendent Philip Hooge invites your feedback at this time to help the NPS "ensure that Bartlett Cove is relevant to and accessible by a diversity of people, while its natural and cultural resource values remain well-preserved for future generations."
