Management of the Inside North Fork Road

Glacier National Park » Management of the Inside North Fork Road » Document List

Glacier National Park officials encourage public comment on future management of the inside North Fork Road (INFR). The INFR has experienced repeated failures and closures since 2006 when major flooding occurred throughout the area. Some prior road fixes have been short-lived and resulted in deposition of road base and sediment into waterways, raising concern for fisheries and the health of riparian communities, including habitat for bull trout, a federally listed species, and cutthroat trout, a Montana State species of concern. Given the extent of needed repairs, as well as costs associated with repair and maintenance, the park is considering the overall future of the INFR.
