Yellowstone National Park (c) Neal Herbert. This is a photo looking into a side view mirror of a car. In the mirror you can see several bison approaching the car walking up the road. Beyond the mirror, bison are passing directly by the car along bright yellow road striping and a road side lined with snow covered evergreens.

Welcome to the National Park Service's Planning, Environment and Public Comment website link for the National Long Range Transportation Plan!

The National Park Service (NPS) National Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) establishes a strategic framework for transportation investment servicewide. The current federal surface transportation authorization, Fixing America's Surface Transportation Act (FAST Act), requires federal land management agencies such as the National Park Service to develop long-range transportation plans that are consistent with the continuous, comprehensive, and cooperative long-range transportation planning processes required of state departments of transportation and metropolitan planning organizations (23 USC §134 and 135). This National LRTP is consistent with those processes and legal requirements. The plan also includes the most comprehensive analysis of NPS transportation finance ever completed. It is a fiscally-constrained plan, meaning that only funds reasonably expected to be available for transportation are included.

The National LRTP will:
• Sustainably manage NPS transportation facilities and services
• Allocate available transportation funding wisely
• Protect and preserve natural and cultural resources
• Maintain and enhance the quality of visitor experiences
• Provide a safe transportation system for all users

Please join us as we embark on this planning process to help shape the future of the National Park Service. The public's support of this long range transportation plan will promote responsible investment and management of transportation related elements throughout the National Park Service and strive to enhance the journey from your home to your park.
