Tuckpointing exterior walls of Education/Conference Center (S-30) and replacing carpet in Sprigg House (HS-11)

Lincoln Home National Historic Site » Tuckpointing exterior walls of Education/Conference Center (S-30) and replacing carpet in Sprigg House (HS-11) » Document List

This project consists of repairing and tuckpointing 2000 SF of the exterior of the Education/Conference Center. Restoration and repointing of the existing exterior walls is needed to maintain this structure in good condition. The mortar joints between the foundation bricks are in poor condition with portions missing and in need of repair. Repointing and repair of the bricks will consist of removing the cracked and deteriorated mortar and replacing it with a mortar mix that is pliable and has a tighter consistency to repel water without damaging the brick. The natural/off white mortar color will maintain an historical appearance, and will match other mortar color used in the park. Although the Center is not a Lincoln-era structure, it is clearly within the viewshed from the Lincoln Home front door and backyard.

This project also consists of replacing 900 SF of carpet squares in the Sprigg House, which serves as the Law Enforcement office. The existing carpet is becoming worn and is in need of replacement. The closed loop industrial carpet with will be a neutral/tweed color to match the walls, which were freshly painted in 2013.
