Arches National Park » Special use permit, bicycle race on Highway 191 bicycle trail » Document List

The National Park Service has received a request for a special use permit for a bicycle race on the bike path parallelling highway 191 in Arches National Park.

Participants would ride on the bike path along the edge of the park, going from upper Moab Canyon toward the Colorado River. The race would start and end outside the park. Approximately 300 participants are expected. No aid stations or staging areas would be located inside the park. Participants and spectators must remain on the bike path or parking areas in the park. No park areas would be closed to the public, and normal visitor use may not be restricted by the race. Event sponsors would provide a law enforcement officer to direct traffic across the park entrance road (bikes would have to stop and wait for cars on the road). The requested date is April 5, 2008, from 10 AM to 5 PM.
