Resurface section of main park road

Arches National Park » Resurface section of main park road » Document List

A section of the main park road, past the Wolfe Ranch/Delicate Arch turnoff, is rutted due to the underlying bentonite soil. The rutting is a safety hazard, and will be corrected with the proposed work.

The work will include pulverizing the existing asphalt down to a maximum depth of 7 inches and recompacting the pulverized material. A 3 inch layer of new asphalt will be placed over the compacted material, and then a fog coat will be sprayed over the new pavement. New striping will then be painted to complete the job.

During the construction period travel through the construction zone will be limited to one lane. Park visitors may experience short delays and traffic congestion at the site, and may have to drive across rough temporarily torn-up road sections. Routine and emergency NPS traffic may also be delayed.

Work will be limited to the existing roadway.
