Stabilize Bulkhead Along Frederica River

Fort Frederica National Monument » Stabilize Bulkhead Along Frederica River » Document List

This project improves the condition of the bulkhead by replacing the vertical boards that hold back soil, backfilling soil lost to the river behind the bulkhead, installing a new handrail, and places rip rap stone in front of the bulkhead to minimize future erosion. This is an effort to stabilize the structure until the bulkhead is eligible for funding for complete replacement (no earlier than FY12). Project completion will allow the trail behind the bulkhead to re-open and improve conditions along the waterfront so visitors continue to have a safe entry point from the Frederica River into FOFR. This project is expected to impact a small amount of visitor traffic (less than 5%) on a daily basis and this project will be posted on the FOFR website for public notice.
