Backcountry Management Plan

Whiskeytown National Recreation Area » Backcountry Management Plan » Document List

This project proposes to expand recreational opportunities in the backcountry of Whiskeytown NRA by adding new trails and campgrounds, vista points and hikers huts at several locations. These facilities will accomodate the expected increase in visitor use in the park upon completion of the Backcountry Management Plan.

Potential activities involved with this project include construction of new trails, construction of bridges along trails at stream crossings that are often inaccessible during periods of high stream flows, construction of benches along existing and new trails, construction of new campgrounds, both drive-to and walk-in, and construction of hiking huts to allow overnight use. Potential locations for the hiking huts are near the summits of Monarch Mountain and Shasta Bally and the Coggins Park Area.

The project is currently in the public scoping phase, and we are seeking your input. Please click on the "Document List" link to the left of the screen for more information about this project. Comments may be submitted online.
