Add directional boring for internet conduit throughout park

Lincoln Home National Historic Site » Add directional boring for internet conduit throughout park » Document List

Conduit throughout the park is too small for the increased communication and internet needs in the park. New conduit will be added from house to house and along fence lines to decrease the risk of impacting unknown and unexcavated archeological sites. Because of the need to go under roads and one sewer pipe, the suggested depth of boring is 3' but may need to be changed to avoid archeological sites. Two trenches, between the Dubois (HS-15) and Miller (HS-14) will be limited to 18" deep and will be hand dug by park staff, and the conduit between the Shutt and Dubois, as well as the Sprigg and Corneau houses has already been replaced with 2" conduit pipe.

The remaining lines will start at the Dean House (HS-13) and pending archeologist review, will be bored west along the fence line to the alley, down the alley, under the 9' deep sewer pipe in Jackson Street, and up along the fence line to the Corneau House (HS-02), entering from the west foundation wall; OR it will come out of the Dean House going east to the boardwalk, go along the boardwalk and under the sewer line, back up to come into the Corneau House through the north wall. Another line will go north from the Dean House to the Lyon/Rosenwald House (HS-08), from the Lyon/Rosenwald to the Beedle House (HS-12). From the Beedle House, the line will be bored north into the lot next door which has been excavated by MWAC, across 8th Street, and into the Conference Center (S-30) on the north side. Again pending archeologist review, the line will either come out of the south side of the Conference Center to the fence line along the alley, around the B-2 shed, and along the fence line just outside the Lincoln Home (HS-01) yard, entering the Home through the previously disturbed ground on the north side; OR it will bored in a separate line from the north side of the Conference Center to the boardwalk on 8th Street, down along the boardwalk and into the Lincoln Home on the north side.

Once the directional boring is completed, 2' conduit pipe will be run through the lines and the bore pits will be filled in with the dirt that was removed to create the pits. The pits will be approximately 2' square and will be needed potentially in the Dean yard, the Beedle yare, and the Conference Center yard.
