Wooden boardwalks leading from the street to front gates of both empty lots and standing houses were added in the early 2000s based on the need to encourage visitors to stay out of the frequently muddy grassy areas between the sidewalks and the streets. Precedent for these sidewalks was found in a photo taken of the Lincoln Home in 1860 showing a short walkway leading from the side gate to the street as well as common practice found in later photos of the neighborhood. Some of the wooden materials have deteriorated and become unsafe, and due to supply chair issues and highly inflated costs, the materials are not readily available to replace all of the wood. This project will remove the walkways and replace with clean fill and grass seed.
