The GGNRA Fire Management Plan (FMP) has been directing fire management actions for GGNRA, Fort Point National Historic Site and Muir Woods National Monument since 2006 and will continue to serve as a blueprint for implementation into the future.

The National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) planning process for the GGNRA FMP was completed on February 24, 2006 when the NPS Pacific West Regional Director approved the Record of Decision (ROD) for the Final Environmental Impact Statement (FMP FEIS). The ROD documents the decision-making process which led to the selection of a strategy from among those assessed in the FEIS to guide future wildland fire management. Through the adoption of the ROD, the NPS affirms a commitment to incorporate the FEIS mitigation measures into future wildland fire management projects and suppression actions.

Parklands that fall under the FMP FEIS and ROD comprise approximately 15,000 acres in Marin, San Francisco and San Mateo counties which constituted all lands within GGNRA's legislative boundary directly managed by the National Park Service at the time of its approval.
