In coordination with stakeholders the team from the NPS and Federal Highways Administration examined the feasibility of options for the footpath consistent with the goals of each stakeholder and in the historical context of the corridor. The feasibility analyzes first involved the development of mapping, review of traffic data, field investigations of the study area to support concept designs. The team concluded that with respect to the field conditions and environmental permitting process implementing a footpath in the project area is feasible
Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail network links the tidal Potomac and upper Youghiogheny river basins, within a corridor rich in historic pathways and waterways. The public can travel this historic corridor today—on foot, bicycle and horse and by boat—exploring contrasting landscapes between the Chesapeake Bay and the Allegheny Plateau. Georgetown Pike is listed on the national register.
