Finding of No Significant Impact Lahar Detection System


The National Park Service has completed its environmental review and issued its decision to permit the installation of lahar detection equipment proposed by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Cascades Volcano Observatory within Mount Rainier National Park.

The decision, detailed in the Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the Lahar Detection System at Mount Rainier, authorizes the USGS to install nine of the proposed 12 monitoring locations within the park.
