Nuttallburg Visitor Use Area Implementation Plan and Environmental Assessment
We are delighted to announce that the Nuttallburg Visitor Use Area Implementation Plan and Environmental Assessment (IP/EA) is now available for your review and comment. This is an exciting time in the history of Nuttallburg. The IP/EA, once reviewed and finalized, will guide the development of this part of the park.
The National Park Service proposes to develop a new visitor use area at New River Gorge National River, which includes the Nuttallburg Mining Complex and Town Historic district. The IP/EA examines four alternatives in detail. All of the alternatives include additional treatments for the site's most significant remaining historic structures but vary in terms of the treatments for other cultural resources, new trail access, interpretive media and scope of the interpretive program, and connections to other visitor use areas within the park. The plan addresses the environmental impacts of each alternative and identifies a Preferred Alternative. We invite your comments concerning these alternatives.
