Fire and Vegetation Management Plan EA

The National Park Service (NPS) is developing a new plan to implement a program of wildland fire and vegetation management activities in three parks in southern West Virginia: New River Gorge National Park and Preserve (NERI), Bluestone National Scenic River (BLUE), and Gauley River National Recreation Area (GARI). The programmatic Fire and Vegetation Management Plan (FVMP) will guide NPS actions over the next ten or more years.
The NPS has prepared an environmental assessment (EA) in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA), the Council on Environmental Quality's regulations for implementing NEPA (40 Code of Federal Regulations [CFR] §§ 1500-1508); US Department of the Interior NEPA regulations (43 CFR § 46), NPS Director's Order 12, and the NPS NEPA Handbook (NPS 2015). The EA provides the basis for the NPS to decide which alternative to adopt and whether the selected alternative has the potential for significant environmental impacts.
