San Juan Island National Historical Park Fire Management Plan Environmental Assessment – 2005

The Environmental Assessment examines the
effects that proposed fire management activities
contained in the five-year (2005-2009) fire
management plan would have on park natural and
cultural resources, human health, developed
facilities and adjacent property. A preferred
alternative is identified that provides for full
suppression of all wildland fires and employs a
program of mechanical fuel reduction and
prescribed fire to reduce wildland fire risks to
life and property. Prescribed fire would also be
used to assist in the restoration and maintenance
of park natural systems and cultural landscapes.
