Background:

Project scoping occurred from April - May, 2017, with a public meeting in April. Attendees asked questions about plant capacity, solids handling/effluent disposal, traffic impacts, and a bathroom at Flat Rock (out of scope). Three letters were received, providing comments about plant capacity, the spray field; and odor reduction. The park staff presented at 2 additional public meetings in June 2017, where they described the project, answered questions, and clarified that plant capacity would be added to accept future flows from unserved parcels and Section 35 buildout.

The environmental assessment (released for public comment from November 11 to December 9, 2018) analyzed 2 action alternatives to address deferred maintenance, improve visitor experience, and improve operational efficiency. The preferred alternative proposed central sewage treatment for Wawona Campground, plant upgrades, golf course irrigation improvements and disposal trench construction, and installation of a South Fork Picnic Area flush toilet. A public meeting was held November 16, 2018. Attendees expressed concerns about plant capacity, golf course construction impacts, and commissioning plans. The park received 9 comment letters; most expressed general project support. Some commenters raised concerns about golf course construction impacts, ground water impacts, and water availability a South Fork Picnic Area flush toilet.
