Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve (JELA) prepared an environmental assessment (EA) to examine alternative actions and environmental impacts associated with the sustainable rehabilitation, to include repair or replacement, and infrastructure reduction of the Barataria Preserve (Preserve) trail network. The action is in response to damages caused by Hurricane Ida, other named and unnamed storms, the environment, and to address trail infrastructure resilience to climate change at the Barataria Preserve of Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. The action will enhance visitor experience and safety while using the trail system in the Preserve.

The National Park Service has determined that this action will not have a significant effect on the human environment, as documented in a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI). The FONSI was signed on December 18, 2024.
