Description:
Learn about the efforts of St. Louis citizens to build a lasting monument to those lost in World War I, the City Beautiful urban planning movement, neoclassical architecture, sculpture, and the evolution of the memorial since its inception.

Dr. James Lindgren is a professor at the State University of New York, Plattsburgh. His areas of expertise are historic preservation, historic sites, the history of memorials, and the history of maritime heritage preservation. Dr. Lindgren joins us through the Organization of American Historians.

The lecture will be followed by a presentation by the National Park Service on a Special Resource Study of the Soldiers' Memorial. The study in progress was requested by Congress in Public Law 110-229 to evaluate the memorial as a potential unit of the national park system. Comments are welcome and encouraged.
