Description:
During the week of February 11, 2008 a group of six scholars, hosted by the National Park Service, will be visiting the Blackstone River Valley to reflect on new scholarly perspectives related to the Valley's industrial heritage. Members of the group include Alison Hoagland from Michigan Technological University, Gary Kulik from Kulik Consulting: Strategic Planning for Non-Profits, Gabrielle Lanier from James Madison University, Walter Licht from the University of Pennsylvania, David Meyer from Brown University, and Jonathan Prude from Emory University. Among the issues they will explore are how historians currently understand or define the Industrial Revolution in the United States and what important themes in American history are represented in the Blackstone Valley.

The culmination of the scholars' visit will be a panel discussion and public forum entitled "New Perspectives on the Blackstone Valley's Industrial Heritage" on Saturday, February 16, from 3:00 until 5:00 pm, at Alternatives Unlimited, Inc. located in the restored Whitin Mill at 50 Douglas Road, Whitinsville, MA 01588.

Members of the community are both invited and encouraged to attend, ask questions of the panel, and offer input. The program is free and open to the public. No advanced reservations are required.
