Comprehensive Trails Plan
Gettysburg NMP » Comprehensive Trails Plan
The National Park Service (NPS) is seeking public comment on the proposed Trails Plan and Environmental Assessment (EA) for Gettysburg National Military Park and Eisenhower National Historic Site. The public comment period will begin November 2 and conclude December 2, 2026.
The proposed plan would establish a 48.27-mile network of designated public-use trails across both parks, including approximately 13.3 miles of additional pedestrian trails and 3.0 miles of bicycle trails. The plan is intended to improve visitor safety, accessibility, and connectivity while providing additional opportunities to experience the parks' historic landscapes.
The plan also identifies opportunities to improve connections with surrounding communities while protecting the parks' significant cultural and natural resources. Trail improvements would be implemented in phases as funding becomes available and following any necessary environmental and historic preservation compliance.
Public Comment Period:
The public is encouraged to review the Environmental Assessment and submit comments from November 2 through December 2, 2026. You can submit written suggestions, comments, and concerns regarding the proposal at this page by clicking on "Open For Comment" under the Project Links listed at the left of this page, and then by clicking on "Comprehensive Trails Plan/EA." Comments are requested by December 2, 2026.
No public meeting is scheduled. Information about the plan and public comment opportunity will also be shared through park websites and social media channels. Public comments will help inform the National Park Service's final decision on the proposed plan.
