he project will conduct a CERCLA and NPS compliant Expanded Preliminary Assessment and Site Inspection to conduct an assessment to determine the vertical and horizontal extent of debris across eleven dumpsites, collect soil, and if present, surface water samples from the dumpsites for chemical analysis. Prior to NPS acquisition of the property, the land was primarily used for agricultural crops during the 20th Century. The Osotouy Unit is a nationally significant property associated with pre-historic and proto-historic American Indians and early European exploration of the Mississippi River Valley. The site contains the Menard-Hodges National Historic Landmark which is the largest known civic-ceremonial center of the Mississippian culture along the lower Arkansas River. Two nationally significant archeological sites also lie within the boundary of Osotouy.
