The National Park Service (NPS), Ninety Six National Historic Site (NISI), has applied for a Construction in Navigable Waters Permit with the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC) to replace the existing Fisherman's Access Trail Bridge located at NISI.

The purpose of the proposed action is to replace the existing wood decking and support structure of the deteriorated and unsafe bridge. The bridge has reached the end of estimated design life and has deteriorated from normal wear and weather conditions. The bridge is not adequate for equestrian travel. Once the project is completed, the new fiberglass bridge will allow equestrian users to travel across the creek safely.

Description of Work: The proposed action consists of replacing the decking, support structure and footers of the existing bridge. The new fiberglass bridge will be 25' long and 7' wide.

The 15-day public review and comment period for this proposed action will begin Friday, May 7th, 2021 and end May 22nd, 2021.

Update as of 5/17/21: the review and comment period for this proposed action has been extended to Tuesday, June 1st, 2021.

Interested parties may express their views on the proposed action. All comments postmarked on or before the expiration of the comment period for this notice will be considered.
