Cabrillo National Monument Trail Management Plan - Environmental Assessment

Cabrillo National Monument » Cabrillo National Monument Trail Management Plan - Environmental Assessment » Document List

The National Park Service is developing a Trail Management Plan/Environmental Assessment for Cabrillo National Monument. The plan will be used to guide the development, maintenance, and use of the trail system for the next 25 years with the goal of improving visitor experience and safety while protecting the park's natural and cultural resources.

Cabrillo National Monument contains an existing network of roads and recreation trails. The trail plan is critical for protecting the special natural and cultural features of the park, providing quality recreational experiences for park visitors, and improving visitor access and safety.

In 2017, we drafted preliminary ideas and invited your feedback. Many expressed support for an expanded trail system and recommended better wayfinding, trail improvements, and connectivity. Others expressed concern for possible adverse impacts from trail expansion. Your feedback was instrumental in helping the planning team develop the preferred action alternative that will improve visitor access, circulation and safety; protect and restore park resources; and be within the park's personnel and budgetary resources to build and maintain.

Cabrillo National Monument is interested in hearing your thoughts on the environmental assessment. We will be accepting feedback during a 30-day comment period between April 13 and May 13, 2019. During this period, the public is encouraged to comment on the plan and identify any issues or concerns. In particular, the planning team is seeking public input regarding the accuracy and adequacy of the information and analysis presented in the plan or information that could influence changes to the preferred alternative.

A public meeting will be held at Cabrillo National Monument on April 25, 2019
