Spacewall Climbing Management Area Environmental Assessment

North Cascades National Park Service Complex » Spacewall Climbing Management Area Environmental Assessment » Document List

The National Park Service (NPS) proposes to establish and open the Spacewall Climbing Management Area (CMA) to sport climbing day use. The purpose of this action is to protect the natural and cultural resources through the active management of sport climbing activities in the Spacewall area.

Per the requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act, North Cascades National Park Service Complex is preparing an Environmental Assessment (EA) to analyze the effects of the proposal and other alternatives.

Designation of climbing management areas are outlined in the Ross Lake NRA General Management Plan (GMP). The Ross Lake GMP recognizes that sport climbing is a unique activity that requires manipulation of the climbing environment including the installation of bolted anchors.
