Replace Employee Housing at CHCU

Chaco Culture National Historical Park » Replace Employee Housing at CHCU » Document List

In 2015, an updated Rockfall Hazzard Assessment was completed by the Geologic Resources Division confirming that previous assessments largely and accurately characterized the hazard to existing park housing and campgrounds. Ultimately, due to rock fall hazards, Chaco Culture National Historical Park (CHCU) made the responsible decision to essentially condemn the housing located in the rock fall zone. As a result CHCU lost 12 permanent and seasonal beds located in four historic housing units within the defined rock fall zone.

This project is designed to help CHCU replace the housing lost through the condemnation of the housing located in the rockfall zone. The replacement of the housing would allow for CHCU to safely house staff needed to for park operations and preservation and research of its World Heritage resources. As it stands the ability to fulfill the NPS Mission with limited staff due to the parks remoteness is compromised significantly.

The proposed replacement housing will be located in the same vicinity as the remainder of housing. Proposed area is located directly south of the existing housing outside of the rock fall zone.
