Lincoln Home National Historic Site » Emergency repair to two south Guest Room windows in Lincoln Home (HS-01) » Document List

The window jambs and sashes on two windows on the second floor of the Lincoln Home have nearly rotted through. The windows face south and have full exposure to the sun and weather at all times- -there are no nearby buildings or trees to block the weather. The windows were built during the 1987-88 restoration using new wood but some original window panes. Repairs were completed as necessary since, but the deterioration is such that the windows may need to be completely rebuilt. using walnut Again, the window panes will be reused. To facilitate the project, the windows will be completely removed and rebuilt using in-kind materials. Plywood will be used to cover the window openings and the exterior shutters and interior venetian blinds will be closed over the spaces to minimize the modern look.
