California NHT Visitor Experience Enhancement Project
City of Rocks National Reserve is proposing to build a new hike/bike/horse trail through Circle Creek Basin to Elephant Rock. It will roughly follow the California National Historic Trail to Camp Rock and Register Rock, then connect to the Tea Kettle Trail at Elephant Rock. This trail will allow visitors access to the historic California Trail features and follow the trail through a portion of the Reserve without having to travel on the county road.
City of Rocks is also planning on adding/replacing the wayside exhibits from Camp Rock to Granite Pass (southwest entrance) with updated wayside panels that have accurate and inclusive interpretive material covering City of Rock's history.
An Environmental Assessment (EA) is being prepared to address the potential environmental impacts from the proposed project and its alternatives. We are seeking public comment on possible affected resources and comments about the project in general that will be taken into consideration during the EA.
