Environmental Assessment (EA) and National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) Section 106 Consultation for the Marine Educational and Recreational Facility at Fort Adams State Park, Newport, Rhode Island

The National Park Service announces the availability of an environmental assessment (EA)/Assessment of Effect (AoE) that analyzes and evaluates the potential environmental impacts associated with the construction of a new Marine Educational and Recreational Facility on property leased by Sail Newport, Inc. at Fort Adams State Park. The document analyzes one action alternative, construction of the facility, and the No Action alternative. The National Park Service must decide whether or not to approve the proposal.

Copies of the EA/AoE are available for review beginning on March 18, 2016, which marks the beginning of the 30-day public comment period. The EA/AoE may be reviewed online at: http://parkplanning.nps.gov/. Hard copies will be available at the Sail Newport office, 60 Fort Adams Drive, Newport, RI and the Newport Public Library, 300 Spring Street, Newport, RI.

The National Park Service also requests your participation in the public comment period by attending a public meeting on Thursday, April 7, 2016, at the Newport Public Library, 300 Spring Street, Newport, RI. This meeting will be in an open house format, and your participation will assist the National Park Service in identifying issues/concerns associated with the analysis presented in the EA and to fulfill public involvement under Section 106 of the NHPA. Displays and informational material will be available for review from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Written comments on the EA/AoE must be received no later than April 18, 2016. Comments may be submitted electronically through the PEPC website or may be submitted in hardcopy to the address below.
