GMP Amendment for Moccasin Bend National Archeological District

Dear Friends,
In October of 2015 we had the opportunity to share with you the range of draft alternatives that had been developed to guide management of Moccasin Bend National Archeological District. This was an important step in the planning process to amend the 1988 General Management Plan for Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park so that it will provide management guidance for Moccasin Bend, which was added to the park in 2003.
After we shared the draft alternatives we were gratified to hear from interested members of the public, our neighbors, agencies and organizations, and the Indian Tribes who have cultural ties to Moccasin Bend. The planning team carefully analyzed these comments when refining the alternatives that were analyzed in the plan and when the preferred alternative was identified. The preferred alternative is the alternative the National Park Service believes will best support the purpose of Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park and its significance within the national park system.
Your comments have been an important part of the planning process and we hope you will continue to participate. The 30-day comment period begins May 1 and ends May 30, 2017. During that time you can share your perspectives on the draft plan with us using our website at www.parkplanning.nps.gov/chch.
The planning team will be holding a public meeting from 4-7 pm on May 4, 2017. A summary of the planning process including the preferred alternative will be presented at 4:30 and 6:30 pm (for more information click on "meeting notices" on this page). We hope you will be able to join us.
