Worker Land Exchange

Wrangell-St. Elias National Park & Preserve » Worker Land Exchange » Document List

Mr. Mat Worker is the owner of two private parcels in Wrangell St. Elias National Park and Preserve. One 40-acre parcel is located within designated wilderness near the Kuskulana glacier, approximately 20 miles from Strelna. The other parcel is located in the upper Snag Creek drainage, approximately 20 miles northeast of Chisana and 15 miles west of the Canada/U.S. border. There is an existing cabin at this property. Access to the Snag Creek property is by fixed wing aircraft to an airstrip on upper Snag Creek that was partially washed out in 2013. Mr. Worker proposes to trade the 40-acre Kuskulana property to NPS in exchange for equal-valued property adjacent to his existing inholding on upper Snag Creek. Mr. Worker would then construct an airstrip on the acquired private property.

The NPS has written an Environmental Assessment (EA) that considers the environmental impacts that would result from this proposals as well as from two alternatives to the proposal. The EA is available for public review and comment. Comments can be submitted on this website or can be made by submitting them to:
