Proposed increase in cave tour fees

Superintendent's message:

In accordance with the Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act of 2004 and National Park Service policy, the National Park Service (NPS) is soliciting public comments on a proposal to increase some of the cave tour ticket fees at Mammoth Cave National Park. Recreation and user fees are retained by the NPS, and at least 80% of fees collected at Mammoth Cave National Park are used for in-park projects such as improving and maintaining visitor facilities, providing visitor services, and restoring natural habitats.

The NPS is proposing increases in the fees ($1 to $2) charged for eight cave tours that require bus transportation. The cost of bus transportation has risen $2 per ticket over the past seven years.

The National Park Service encourages feedback from the public to help us gain a broad perspective and make well-informed decisions about how to proceed with proposed changes. Should you wish to provide us with your thoughts, you may do so by using the commenting capabilities of this web site.

We appreciate you taking the time to help us protect and preserve Mammoth Cave National Park.

Sincerely,

Sarah Craighead
Superintendent
