Effective March 1, 2012, the hourly rate for parking will increase to $1.25/hour.
In October 2011, the National Park Service proposed an increase of the hourly rates for the parking meters located in the parking lot of Thompson's Boat Center, a National Park Service facility. This parking lot is located at the intersection of Virginia Avenue, NW and the Rock Creek and Potomac Parkway.
The proposed increase was based on a comparability review of the rates charged for similar public services in the area. This review indicated the rates for the nearby similar services had increased, and as a result we proposed to increase the parking meter rates to remain comparable with the neighboring public services.
As is the current practice, the revenue generated will contribute to reducing the maintenance backlog and enhancing visitor services throughout Rock Creek Park.
