Develop EA for Transfer Jurisdiction & Improvments to Intersection of Pennsylvania & Potomac Avenues

The NPS and DC are exploring the transfer of jurisdiction for approximately 0.38 acres (preliminary estimate) of NPS land to DC, and approximately 0.27 acres (preliminary estimate) of DC land to NPS to complete proposed improvements at the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and Potomac Avenue (U.S. Reservation 54 A, B, C, D, E & F) in the Southeast quadrant of Washington, D.C. The EA will examine the potential impacts of the Proposed Action to this intersection as detailed within preliminary design specifications and drawings. The intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and Potomac Avenue is a high-traffic area that does not function at the level necessary to safely accommodate the current traffic and pedestrian activity.

Pennsylvania Avenue is a well-known Washington, DC thoroughfare. Originally constructed as part of Pierre L'Enfant's 1791 Plan for the City of Washington, D.C., the Pennsylvania and Potomac avenues intersection is one of the area's intersecting diagonal avenues superimposed over the City's grid system.
