The National Park Service, Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park, will installation replacement signs in accordance with the NPS sign plan. Project will include the replacement of 9 existing Park ID signs and the installation of 10 new signs including 6 Park ID signs, 3 Road Guide signs, and 1 Visitor Information Trail Guide sign.


Sign locations include; Capital Crescent Trail, Lock 6, Lock 7, Lock 8, Lock 10, Carderock, Anglers Access, Great Falls Entrance Road, Pennyfield Lock, Violettes Lock, Seneca, Edwards Ferry, Nolands Ferry, Point of Rocks, Lock 29, Paw Paw Tunnel Parking Lot, and Pollack Cemetery.

The park's Interdisciplinary Team reviewed the project for impacts to natural and cultural resources. The project does not pose any serious or long-term effects to the environmental, historical, cultural, archeological, or visual resources. It meets categorical exclusion #C.5 – Installation of signs, displays, and kiosks.

The project also meets the National Historic Preservation Act/Section 106 Programmatic Agreement, Streamlined Review Process #10 – Erection of signs, wayside exhibits, and memorial plaques.
