The National Park Service, Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park, will coordinate volunteer projects in conjunction with the park's Canal Pride Days. The volunteers will undertake work within various parking lots in the Palisades District of the park. The designated tasks include general cleaning and restriping the parking lots. All lots need general cleanup that will include using power blowers, trash removal, and sweeping. The restriping activity will include a power washing preparation.

Striping for the parking spaces will be accomplished with 4 inch rollers and appropriate white paint. Designated handicap parking spots will be marked with the appropriate painted symbols.

Parking lot work will be undertaken at Great Falls Tavern, Riley's Lock, Parking Lot C at Carderock, and the lot at Carderock Pavilion.

Additional work at Violettes Lock parking area will also be undertaken. Work at this location will be the removal of stockpiled flood debris and general clean-up of the parking area.

All VIP projects will be coordinated and supervised by NPS staff.

The park's Interdisciplinary Team reviewed the project for impacts to natural and cultural resources. The project does not pose any serious or long-term effects to the environmental, historical, cultural, archeological, or visual resources. It meets categorical exclusion #C.9 – Repair, resurfacing, striping, installation of traffic control devices, repair/replacement of guardrails, culverts, signs and other minor existing features on existing roads when no potential for environmental impact exists.
