Addition to Cabin on Smith Tract

Ozark National Scenic Riverways » Addition to Cabin on Smith Tract » Document List

This project considers the expansion of the Smith cabin located south of the Big Spring developed area on the Current River, Carter County, Missouri. The work proposed would involve the construction of a new 20 foot by 26 foot addition on the west side of the existing cabin. This property is under a scenic easement with the National Park Service, Ozark National Scenic Riverway. The existing Cabin 2 is one of two cabins in a developed area on a terrace above the Current River, and is 26 feet by 35 feet, with a small covered porch on the back side (southerly) and a broken concrete patio (6 x 12 ft.) on the front. It has a shallow, gable metal roof. The developed area has a gravel road, vehicle parking areas, and a couple of small outbuildings on south side of open space. The vegetation is mowed. The proposal is to:

1. Add a 20 x 26 foot room on the westerly end and extend/match the existing roof line with replacement of wooden shake shingles;
2. Remove the broken concrete patio and construct a screened-in patio 10 x 20 feet; and
3. Remove the masonry siding and replace with vinyl or concrete board siding; the siding will be light tan color to match the siding on Cabin 1.

The expansion of the structure increases the home's size from 988 sq. ft. to 1508 sq. ft. (This description was revised on 9/7/07 and reposted.) See Document List for a copy of the Categorical Exclusion.
