Install Potomac Heritage Trail signs

Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park » Install Potomac Heritage Trail signs » Document List

The National Park Service will install Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail signs at two locations within the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park. The signs will be located at Cumberland, Maryland, and near Lock 33 of the park, which is across the Potomac River from Harpers Ferry, WV.

The Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail is an evolving network of locally managed trails, including the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal towpath. These trails provide opportunities for hiking, bicycling, horseback riding, boating, and cross-country skiing. The Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail is the enterprise of many partners. The Trail commemorates the heritage of the Potomac and upper Ohio River basins.

The two signs will meet NPS sign standards for graphics and display. They will provide information on the Potomac Heritage Scenic Trail.

The park's Interdisciplinary Team reviewed the project for impacts to natural and cultural resources. The project does not pose any serious or long-term effects to the environmental, historical, cultural, archeological, or visual resources. A memo to the file has been issued
