Upgrade 2 Existing Communications Radio Antennas

Guadalupe Mountains National Park » Upgrade 2 Existing Communications Radio Antennas » Document List

The park proposes to upgrade 2 existing communications repeaters and antennas located in remote areas of the Guadalupe Mountains Wilderness. This action is required to facilitate the conversion to narrow band radio frequencies and maintain emergency and administrative communication capabilities within the Guadalupe Mountains region. Maintaining these installations in wilderness was disclosed and reviewed in the 1995 Backcountry/Wilderness Management Plan and Environmental Assessment with no objection. The proposed action will decrease the bulk of the structures at each location but will require increasing the overall tower/antenna height from the existing 22' to 32'. These single towers at the 2 locations should still be unnoticeable to recreationists and within the overall viewsheds. There are no perceived associated impacts to natural or cultural resources.
