Naknek Lake Sand Removal

Katmai National Park & Preserve » Naknek Lake Sand Removal » Document List

The National Park Service is considering a project to remove up to approximately 200 cubic yards of sand from the shore of Naknek Lake in Katmai National Park. Sand removal would occur in late spring of 2007, when lake water levels are very low and the shore is exposed and dry. The purpose of this project is to excavate sand material, of adequate quantity and quality, for the rehabilitation of the existing Brooks Camp leach field. Project alternatives for material sources and transport methods are analyzed in the environmental assessment.
