Quantico Orienteering Club 2006 Orienteering Event - Special Use Permit Request (REVISED EVENT)

Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park » Quantico Orienteering Club 2006 Orienteering Event - Special Use Permit Request (REVISED EVENT) » Document List

A special use permit was issued to the Quantico Orienteering Club by the National Capital Regional Office for an orienteering event, held January 29, 2006.

The event was conducted in the Gold Mine Area, Great Falls, Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park.

Event coordinators had initially requested an event with six different courses, varying in skill level. Due to concerns with impacts to wetlands and seeps, the National Park Service asked for a revision of the event. Event coordinators supplied course information and two of the original six courses were approved. These two courses were modified to prevent wetland and seep crossings.

The event was monitored by park rangers.

Based on the event revisions, this event was reviewed for impacts to natural and cultural resources by the park's Interdisciplinary Team. The project met Categorical Exclusion # 3.4 D (3) - Issuance of permits for demonstrations, gatherings, ceremonies, concerts, arts and crafts shows, and so forth, entailing only short-term or readily remediable disturbances.

Future events will need to be submitted for separate reviews in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act and other applicable laws.
