This project will focus on restoring missing or deteriorated features of the caboose and to bring these features up to maintainable state. A conservation condition survey prepared by the California State Railroad Museum will provide oversight and guide the work by the National Park Service, Yosemite Historic Preservation Team. The scope of this project will include:
- Install new roofing system as recommended by CSR Museum.
- Remove and replace"in-kind"all deteriorated exterior siding and wood elements.
- Reconstruct both fore and aft platforms including priming, painting, and replacing hardware.
- Restore both entry doors.
- Restore brake hardware.
- Restore windows and window hardware.
- Repair attached boxes under right side of the caboose.
- Repaint entire exterior and re-letter with historic nomenclature.
