Katahdin Woods and Waters General Management Plan

Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument » Katahdin Woods and Waters General Management Plan

The National Park Service (NPS) seeks public input to guide the development of a general management plan for Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument ('the Monument'). The plan is in the early stages of development. NPS seeks feedback from the public and local community members to help identify key issues, opportunities and potential management strategies.

From April 29 through May 6, 2026, members of the public may participate in this planning process. The information gathered by NPS will inform decision-making and priority setting for public investments over the next decade.

Those interested in hearing more about the general management plan may attend one or more public meetings, which will include opportunities to ask questions and to make preliminary comments. The links to these virtual public meetings will go live on the General Management Plan's official Planning, Environment and Public Comment (PEPC) webpage on April 29, 2026, on the Monuments website and on its social media accounts.

The Monument does not yet have a comprehensive management plan. Building on earlier planning efforts, including the Monuments Foundation Document and the previous draft Management Framework effort, NPS now seeks public perspectives to inform draft management vision, desired conditions and zoning concepts that will guide the future of this nationally significant landscape.
