As a park with vegetation capable of sustaining fire, NPS policy requires that Roosevelt-Vanderbilt NHS have an approved wildland fire management plan. The wildland fire management plan will assist park management in managing wildland fire and hazardous fuel conditions within park boundaries. Current NPS fire management updates to NPS Reference Manual #18 (RM-18), as directed by NPS Director’s Order #18 (DO-18), specify the format and requirements for a wildland fire management plan and these will be incorporated into the wildland fire management plan. The plan will not recommend the use of prescribed fire.
