Rehabilitate Duplex Housing Unit in Kotzebue, Units 154C&D
The National Park Service has approved this project after reviewing it for compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA).

Repair or replace sub-standard wiring which exist in both duplex Units 154C and 154D. Replace ceiling light fixtures which do not have any protection from bulb breakage. Replace the main electrical panel on Unit D which is badly corroded and missing the outer cover, exposing live wires. Install runs of unsecured electrical wiring in conduits. Install hard-wired smoke alarms in both buildings. Install an egress window or fire escape door on the back side of each duplex unit. Install a HVAC heat exchanger/air circulation system in each unit. Rework the sewer lines to allow for proper drainage and eliminate freezing. Replace bath tubs and shower inserts, installing to meet code. Rework handicap access ramp to meet ADA requirements. Rework front steps on the duplex porch to meet code. replace deteriorated entry doors on both duplexes. Repair attic vents to eliminate snow and condensation in the attic.
