Rehabilitate or Replace Deficient and Deteriorated Employee Housing at Lodgepole

Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks » Rehabilitate or Replace Deficient and Deteriorated Employee Housing at Lodgepole » Document List

The National Park Service (NPS) is seeking public input on a proposal to rehabilitate or replace employee housing and related infrastructure in the Lodgepole Employee Housing District serving Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks.

This project proposes rehabilitating or demolishing and replacing park housing units and related housing elements in the Lodgepole Housing District with more durable structures, upgraded utilities, and improved circulation to better meet the parks' current housing needs. The new housing may consist of a combination of single-family homes, duplexes, and multi-unit buildings using NPS prototype units adapted to meet site conditions and park needs. Each unit will meet current code, be structurally adequate to resist snow load, and employ a weathertight envelope. Energy efficiency and overall building durability will be significantly improved. The proposed housing improvements will allow for four-season occupancy, greater flexibility for housing management, reduced maintenance burden, and improved operational efficiency.

Public feedback on the proposed action will be accepted via this website (https://parkplanning.nps.gov/LodgepoleHousing) through midnight, July 17, 2025. Comments that provide insights about additional feasible alternatives the NPS should consider to meet the purpose and need identified in the scoping letter, resource considerations in addition to those identified in the scoping letter, or scientific information the NPS should consider in the environmental assessment (EA) are particularly helpful.

The public scoping letter can be accessed via the "Document List" link on the left hand side of this page.

Written comments may also be sent via mail or hand-delivery to:

Attn: Lodgepole Housing Rehabilitation and Replacement

Comments will not be accepted via methods other than those described above.

Following the scoping period, the NPS will consider all feedback to inform the EA, which the NPS expects will be available for public review and comment in fall 2025. The NPS anticipates making a final decision on whether to take action no later than April 2026.
